On day two of the southbound Hurtigruten journey, you stop for two hours in the ‘northernmost city in the world’: Hammerfest. While this claim has been debated by neighbouring Honningsvåg, Hammerfest nonetheless feels like a northern city: visit in winter and you’ll see deep snow contrasting against urban apartment buildings, or visit in summer and see the midnight sun against the new shopping malls. Hammerfest is a real treat and a highlight of the southbound journey, and two hours will just fly by.
