Frequently Asked Questions

We can tell you everything about Bergen

Here is everything you need to know before taking our tours.

Finding the Meeting Point

Each of our tours has its own meeting point. You can view them below.

We require all guests to be at the meeting point at least 10 minutes before departure. We do not wait for latecomers, and automatically cancel bookings more than 15 minutes late. It is therefore very important to know where to meet the guide ahead of time.

A Walk Through Bergen Past and Present & Bergen by Minibus

Meet at the address Bradbenken 1, a brick building outside the fortress entrance. The building is located in front of the entrance to the Thon Hotel Orion.

Nordnes: Hidden Gem of Bergen

Please meet at the address Øvre Murallmenningen 23, outside the entrance to the Aksdal Raincoat Store.

Urban Hike & Fløyen Hike

Please meet outside the Julehuset shop on Bryggen.

Cruise Ship Passengers

There are three cruise piers in Bergen: two in the old town and one outside the city centre. It is important to check with your ship which cruise pier you are docking at, as it will affect how long it takes to reach your meeting point. Below is a map of where all the cruise piers are in relation to our meeting point for "A Walk Through Bergen Past & Present".

You can find information about where the cruise ships are docking on the Bergen Port Authority website. Be sure to filter by cruise ships: https://www.bergenhavn.no/en/arrivals

Getting to the Meeting Point

Our meeting points are all within walking distance if you are staying in the city centre, but for some transport may be needed.

Bergen does have Uber, but their prices are almost the same as taxis, but there are far less Uber cars in Bergen, so you may be waiting a while for the Uber.

We recommend 07000 Bergen Taxi. Download their app and enter your pick-up and drop-off locations, and the app will give you the “maximum price” you’ll pay for the trip. it’s by far the most reasonable price for all taxis in Bergen.

Buses 3, 4, 10, 12, 16E, 18, 19. 30, 37, 39, 86, 300 and 310 stop at Bryggen, the closest bus-stop to our meeting point.

All buses are operated by the company Skyss. You will need to purchase your ticket before getting on the bus; the cheapest way is through the Skyss app, or by buying a ticket on their online store.

Our meeting point is about a 10 minute walk from the end stop of the Bybanen light rail.

We do not encourage coming to our meeting point by car; parking is expensive. There are no free parking spaces close to our meeting point.

The closest parking garage is Bryggen P-hus | APCOA PARKING.

Please allow extra time if you are coming by car.

When is the best time to visit Bergen?

Bergen is beautiful year-round, and the best time really depends on what you’d like to experience.

  • Summer (June–August): Long days, lively festivals, and warm weather. Perfect for walking tours and outdoor activities.
  • Spring (April–May): Blossoming gardens, fewer crowds, and mild weather.
  • Autumn (September–October): Crisp air, vibrant colours, and a calmer atmosphere after peak season.
  • Winter (November–March): A cosy time to explore the city’s history and culture, with the chance to see snow in the surrounding mountains.

Bergen is famous for its changeable weather, so it’s always wise to bring a rain jacket, no matter when you visit.

  • What Should I bring on a walking tour?

It's a good rule of thumb to expect rain most days in Bergen. We do not provide umbrellas, so consider getting one from your hotel or ship before coming.

It's important to bring good walking shoes, as we do walk on cobblestones and hills.

Please bring a bottle of water; it can get warm in summer!

    About the Tours & Experiences

    01.

Bergen is the rainiest city in Europe.

Yepp, that's right. It rains around 230-250 days a year in Bergen, so we are all pretty used to the rainy weather. This means there's a high chance you'll need to bring raingear on your tour.

    02.

We offer tours in all languages!

Our public tour, A Walk Through Bergen Past and Present, is available in English, German and Spanish. We are also able to offer private tours in French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, and (of course) Norwegian/Scandinavian languages.

    03.

    We only do small-group tours

We believe in providing a local experience in Bergen, so we strictly limit our group sizes to 16 guests (15 for the minibus). This ensures we are able to visit neighbourhoods without disturbing residents, and all our group members get a chance to ask the guide questions.

    04.

We love having kids & pets on tours

You are more than welcome to bring small children, strollers, and pets on tour. However, we do include cobblestone and stairs on tours, so be prepared for that.

    05.

    We run all year round

Bergen is beautiful every day of the year, so we operate our tours every day.

    06.

We provide recommendations for things to see and do in Bergen

All of our tours include recommendations on restaurants, cafes, local shopping, the best museums, unique hiking trails, and more. All of our guides live in Bergen permanently, so we are able to provide you with local insight.

    Accessibility

All our tours are graded as moderate, meaning it is expected that our guests can walk up and down hill on stairs and cobblestones. We also cover a lot of ground over the duration of the tour. If you require a gentler walk, we recommend booking a private tour.

    Booking & Payment

We require all of our tours to be paid online in advance, as not all of our guides carry card readers on tours. We strictly limit our group size to 16 guests (15 on minibus tours), and we cannot accommodate larger groups.

    Cancellation Due to Weather

We typically do not cancel tours due to weather. However, if the Norwegian Meteorological Service puts out a warning of extreme weather, we will consider cancelling the tour. If we cancel the tour, you will be notified and refunded 24 hours before the tour.

    Changes to Bookings & Cancellation

All changes and cancellations can take place up to 24 hours before the tour begins (48 hours for the minibus tour). We cannot refund bookings within 24 hours of the tour taking place, nor can we adjust group sizes.
