Andrea

Hungarian, Living in Bergen 10+ Years
Certified Guide in English & German

Hungarian ethnic born in the north of Transylvania, in the heart of a deeply rooted German – Hungarian community, I moved to Norway in 2013, following my husband’s dream of living in the North. Quickly, the “extra” languages I knew from home proved to be very helpful and so my guiding journey started. In over 10 years of guiding, I probably did almost every kind of tour there is in and around Bergen, with a predilection for hikes, biking and walking tours. My main guiding languages are English and German. Whenever I’m off, I love to spend time in nature and mountains, just as much as I love landscape and nature photography.

Caoimhe

Irish
Certified Guide in English

I’m from Dublin, Ireland, and my move to Bergen in 2025 has made many people comment about how I must love the rain! Admittedly, I do quite like rain. But it was the unique way that Bergen is nestled between mountains and hugged by fjords that enticed me to live here. I had been working in Dublin for a couple of years as a non-profit fundraising officer, before I felt called to try a new lifestyle, closer to nature and with a greater focus on my passions. My partner and I took a bet on Bergen and are so glad we did.

Living here, I love that I can be walking up a mountainside at the drop of a hat, dipping in the cold fjord after a sauna, or writing at my desk at home with a view to the water and the changing boats. I’m very passionate about how culture, stories and the natural world interact to meaningfully bring people together. I love getting to know guests as I show them around this beautiful city, with enthusiasm for all kinds of weather and a good dose of Irish humour.

Caterina

Italian
Certified Guide in English & Italian

I’m from Italy, but I’ve lived in England and Prague before unexpectedly ending up in Bergen. I originally came here to visit my Norwegian boyfriend… and somehow never really left. Between the rain, the mountains, and the cozy city vibes, I fell for Bergen and decided to make it my home. Since then, I’ve been exploring the city and its surroundings in every season and in all kinds of weather (yes, even the rainy ones!).

In my free time, I enjoy hiking in the summer, skiing in the winter, and going to the sauna year-round. I’m also passionate about literature, languages, cinema, and of course food—and I love bringing these interests into my tours. I’d be delighted to show you around, mixing historical anecdotes, cultural surprises, and a glimpse into local life and everything this beautiful city has to offer.

Dane

Norwegian
Certified Guide in English & Norwegian

I’m Dane, and I’m from Oslo, Norway, where I was born and raised. Back in 2013, I packed up and headed west to Bergen for university, which turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I’ve always had a passion for understanding the stories that shape our world, so I studied history at university. My curiosity has taken me far and wide across Europe and Scandinavia, where I’ve spent years exploring different cultures, traditions, and landscapes.

When I’m not out on the road, you’ll usually find me diving into topics like history, mythology, folklore, and literature—all the things that bring the past to life and connect it to the present.

I speak both English and Norwegian, and I love sharing Norway’s incredible stories, legends, and hidden gems with travellers from all over the world.

Eirik

Norwegian
Certified Guide in English & Norwegian

Hi! My name is Eirik. I am a local Bergensian, born and raised in Bergen, near the famous Mount Fløyen Restaurant. The restaurant was where I worked the longest during my bachelor’s and master’s at the University of Bergen. I am currently working at the Bergenhus Fortress Museum, teaching school children about our city’s military history. I do tours in English and Norwegian, talking about the streets I grew up on. While also trying to pick up more European languages in my spare time. I have had over a dozen jobs in Bergen and spent most of my savings on travelling across the continent, from Oslo to Amsterdam, Heidelberg, London, Stockholm and more, just in the last few years. I spend my free time hiking in the mountains and can’t get enough of outdoor activities, even when the weather is challenging.

Emma

Australian, Living in Bergen 10+ years
Certified Guide in English

I’m a proud Australian who moved to Norway in 2015 after marrying Sean – a true Bergen local. At the time, I honestly couldn’t have pointed to Norway on a map, but it sounded like an adventure, and it certainly has been!

To settle in and make friends, I started working as a tour guide while also lecturing in film at the University of Oslo (yes, I really did commute between Bergen and Oslo!). Before long, tourism captured my heart and became my full-time path. In 2018, I stepped into the role of trip leader across the Nordic region, guiding guests through the stunning fjords of Norway as well as to Northern Norway, Svalbard, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Iceland and the Scottish islands – often on Hurtigruten voyages, small-group tours, and unforgettable northern lights adventures.

In 2020, I launched I Love Bergen as a travel blog, and by 2022 it had grown into a fully fledged tour company. I’ve since moved the blog over to The Hidden North, while I Love Bergen is for the tours. Today, Sean and I run I Love Bergen together, blending our local knowledge and passion for sharing this beautiful part of the world. Along the way, I’ve been featured in Norwegian, American and Australian media, sharing my love for Norway, its landscapes, and its culture with a global audience.

Heidi

Norwegian
Certified Guide in English & Norwegian

I’m a Bergen native with a big love for culture, food and city life.

I’ve worked as a tour operator and have also spent years in marketing within life science and technology. Today, I spend much of my time exploring what Bergen has to offer – from theatre, concerts and events to the city’s restaurants and bars.

I live in the city centre in one of Bergen’s historic wooden houses, and enjoy sharing both the stories and the everyday life of the city. As a guide, I aim to give guests a more personal and authentic experience of Bergen, beyond the obvious highlights.

Helene

German
Certified Guide in English & German

Hi, my name is Helene. I’m 28 years old and originally from Berlin. In 2024 I decided to move to Bergen – in my case, for love 🙂

I’m a keen photographer and theatre lover. Anything to do with culture and arts is my passion. I love going for walks and swimming, and I’m always happy to meet up with friends for a smak & prat. For me, Bergen is a wonderful city that offers me all of this. I’d be happy to show you my favourite parts of the city, give you tips on where to find the best tea and coffee (in my opinion 🙂 ) and tell you what’s going on in Bergen.

Janine

Australian, Living in Bergen 10+ Years
Certified Guide in English

I grew up in Australia and moved to the UK in my early 20s, where I lived for 10 years and met my Norwegian husband. In 2006, I made Bergen my home — a city I fell in love with instantly.

As an astrologer, an animal lover, and a passionate Brann supporter (Bergen’s football team), I bring a unique and spirited perspective to my tours. I’m eager to share Bergen’s rich character and complex history with you.

Jeff

Danish, Living in Bergen 2+ Years

Originally from Denmark, I moved to Norway to trade flatlands for fjords and soak up the outdoors. Im a technician by trade, and a traveller at heart. Big fan of cycling, camping, and getting my hands dirty on anything creative. I guide in Danish/Norwegian, English and German; so chances are we will understand each other just fine!

Jørgen

Norwegian
Certified Guide in English & Norwegian

Although I was born in Ålesund and spent my first three years in beautiful Loen, Nordfjord, before becoming a Bergenser through and through. I’m a proud autodidact, an experienced traveller and multilingual. Travelling the world and living abroad in France, Argentina and England gave me incredible experiences and memories to cherish forever.

After years abroad, I returned home and fell back in love with my hometown! I love Bergen with all my heart (even when it rains;) and now I wish to give the visitors of Bergen great experiences and memories through enthusiastic guiding and storytelling!

I’m tall and loud, so I’m easy to see and hear in the streets of Bergen😊 I cherish encountering people from all over the world and I’ll do the best I can to present our history, along with good stories and recommendations for a great time while visiting Bergen and Norway!

Magda

Polish, Living in Bergen 10+ Years
Certified Guide in English & Dutch

Hi, my name is Magda. I am from Poland, and Bergen has been my home since 2013. Considering that I studied Dutch, Bergen is not the most intuitive place to move to. Coming here was supposed to be a short-term adventure that just turned out to be a little longer. As a tour guide, I get to stay curious, discover new places, and pursue my passion for languages and history. Despite its rainy aura, Bergen is irresistible to me, where the city life can be combined with an outdoor adventure.

Maria

Spanish, Living in Bergen 5+ Years
Certified Guide in English and Spanish

Hey! I’m Maria. I’m from Spain, and I came to Norway for work in geotechnical engineering. Basically, I spend my days figuring out what the ground is doing… and my evenings wondering why I chose the rainiest city in Europe.

I started guiding simply because I love talking—and Bergen gives me endless stories, from mountains to fjords to umbrellas turning inside out. When I’m not at work or guiding, you’ll probably find me outside—hiking, exploring, or pretending to be sporty.

I speak Spanish, English and Norwegian. If you want serious explanations, fun facts, or just random banter – I’m your person.

Neil

English & Norwegian, Living in Bergen 30+ Years
Certified Guide in English

My first experience in Norway goes back to the 1980s, when I spent three weeks on the Hardangervidda while completing my Mountain Leaders Qualification. At the time, I was part of the Scottish Mountain Rescue Service, something I am very proud of.

In the early ’90s, I went to sea, working on oil-field service vessels. Not long after, I moved permanently to Norway and continued in the same line of work for many years. That career came to an end in 2013 when I was made redundant, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise because it pushed me to try something new: guiding. I signed up for the guide course and never looked back.

When I’m not guiding, I enjoy fishing and being outdoors with my rescue dog in the countryside around Bergen.

Paulina

German, Living in Bergen 2+ Years
Certified Guide in English & German

I’m Paulina, originally from northern Germany. I came to Bergen in 2024 for an Erasmus semester and quickly fell in love with the city, its nature, and the Norwegian way of life, which led me to settle here. I now study at the University of Bergen to become a teacher in geography, German, and history.

What I like most about Bergen is the unique mix of city life and mountains. I’ve learned that “bad weather” here is mostly just a question of preparation and the right clothing. In my free time, I enjoy hiking on Bergen’s mountains and skiing in winter. When I’m indoors, I like baking (especially skillingsboller) and knitting.

I speak fluent German and English, and I speak good Norwegian, and I enjoy meeting new people and sharing my Bergen highlights.

Serena

Italian, Living in Bergen 10+ Years
Certified Guide in English & Italian

I was born and raised in Rome, Italy, with an incredible, crazy family from Puglia, in the South. I’ve always loved art, cultures, and languages, and I’m happy that I’ve been able to turn my passions into my academic journey.

My career as a tourist guide started in Rome as a young volunteer for F.A.I. ( Fondo Ambiente Italiano), for 2 years, until I decided to move to Norway in 2015. Since then, I’ve started studying immediately to get certified as a tourist guide in Norway, I’ve started working with traditional Norwegian dresses— Bunads — and I’ve finally had the chance to study Norwegian Sign Language (NTS). Whenever I have free time, I love to knit, crochet or do anything crafty.

Silke

German, Living in Bergen 1+ Years
Certified Guide in English & German

Originally from northern Germany, I moved to Bergen not too long ago — though my Bergen story actually began back in 2002, when my sister settled here. After countless holidays and workations in every season, I finally decided to make Bergen my permanent home together with my son, and I haven’t regretted it for a single moment.

I am a trained gardener and have worked in South Africa, Scotland and England. Later, I studied tourism in Bremen and spent time in Ecuador and the Galápagos before living in Hamburg for about 15 years. Wherever I was, I always loved showing people around, discovering hidden corners, learning local stories, and making sure tourism is as sustainable as possible.

Walking has always been a natural part of this, which is why taking you on walking and hiking tours feels like the perfect way to share Bergen with you.
