Anaïs

American, Living in Bergen 5+ Years
Guide in English, Spanish, Catalan & French

I am originally from San Francisco, California, and moved to Bergen in March 2020 after my Norwegian (now) husband got a job here. When I was 7, my family moved to Girona, Spain, where I grew up and lived until I graduated high school. I returned to the USA to complete my undergraduate degree in NYC, and after living a couple of years in California, I decided to move to London, where I completed my MA and PhD in medieval history. I enjoy travelling, reading, and hiking, as well as talking extensively about history.

Andrea

Hungarian, Living in Bergen 10+ Years
Certified Guide in English & German

Hungarian ethnic born in the north of Transylvania, in the heart of a deeply rooted German – Hungarian community, I moved to Norway in 2013, following my husband’s dream of living in the North. Quickly, the “extra” languages I knew from home proved to be very helpful and so my guiding journey started. In over 10 years of guiding, I probably did almost every kind of tour there is in and around Bergen, with a predilection for hikes, biking and walking tours. My main guiding languages are English and German. Whenever I’m off, I love to spend time in nature and mountains, just as much as I love landscape and nature photography.

Dane

Norwegian
Certified Guide in English & Norwegian

I’m Dane, and I’m from Oslo, Norway, where I was born and raised. Back in 2013, I packed up and headed west to Bergen for university, which turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I’ve always had a passion for understanding the stories that shape our world, so I studied history at university. My curiosity has taken me far and wide across Europe and Scandinavia, where I’ve spent years exploring different cultures, traditions, and landscapes.

When I’m not out on the road, you’ll usually find me diving into topics like history, mythology, folklore, and literature—all the things that bring the past to life and connect it to the present.

I speak both English and Norwegian, and I love sharing Norway’s incredible stories, legends, and hidden gems with travellers from all over the world.

Eirik

Norwegian
Certified Guide in English & Norwegian

Hi! My name is Eirik. I am a local Bergensian, born and raised in Bergen, near the famous Mount Fløyen Restaurant. The restaurant was where Iworked the longest during my bachelor and masters at the University of Bergen. I am currently working at the Bergenhus Fortress Museum while also applying for available PhD-positions at local universities in the tech-field. I do tours in English and Norwegian while talking about the streets I grew up in on my tours. While also trying to pick up more European languages in my spare time. I have had over a dozen jobs in Bergen and spend most of my money on traveling across the continent, from Oslo to Amsterdam, Heidelberg, London, Stockholm and more, just in the last few years. I spend my free time hiking on the mountains and can’t get enough of outdoors activities, even when the weather is challenging.

Emma

Australian, Living in Bergen 10+ years
Certified Guide in English

I’m a proud Australian who moved to Norway in 2015 after marrying Sean – a true Bergen local. At the time, I honestly couldn’t have pointed to Norway on a map, but it sounded like an adventure, and it certainly has been!

To settle in and make friends, I started working as a tour guide while also lecturing in film at the University of Oslo (yes, I really did commute between Bergen and Oslo!). Before long, tourism captured my heart and became my full-time path. In 2018, I stepped into the role of trip leader across the Nordic region, guiding guests through the stunning fjords of Norway as well as to Northern Norway, Svalbard, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Iceland and the Scottish islands – often on Hurtigruten voyages, small-group tours, and unforgettable northern lights adventures.

In 2020, I launched I Love Bergen as a travel blog, and by 2022 it had grown into a fully fledged tour company. I’ve since moved the blog over to The Hidden North, while I Love Bergen is for the tours. Today, Sean and I run I Love Bergen together, blending our local knowledge and passion for sharing this beautiful part of the world. Along the way, I’ve been featured in Norwegian, American and Australian media, sharing my love for Norway, its landscapes, and its culture with a global audience.

Janine

Australian, Living in Bergen 10+ Years
Certified Guide in English

I grew up in Australia and moved to the UK in my early 20s, where I lived for 10 years and met my Norwegian husband. In 2006, I made Bergen my home — a city I fell in love with instantly.

As an astrologer, an animal lover, and a passionate Brann supporter (Bergen’s football team), I bring a unique and spirited perspective to my tours. I’m eager to share Bergen’s rich character and complex history with you.

Jeff

Danish, Living in Bergen 2+ Years
Guide in English, German & Danish

Originally from Denmark, I moved to Norway to trade flatlands for fjords and soak up the outdoors. Im a technician by trade, and a traveller at heart. Big fan of cycling, camping, and getting my hands dirty on anything creative. I guide in Danish/Norwegian, English and German; so chances are we will understand each other just fine!

Judith

German, Living in Bergen for 3+ Years
Certified Guide in English & German

I’m Judith, originally from Germany and now happily living in Bergen together with my daughter and Norwegian husband, who convinced me three years ago, that Bergen is the most beautiful city in Norway!

I work as a high school teacher, specializing in German and sports, but I also have a passion for sharing culture, history, and local stories as a tour guide.

With many years of experience leading school groups, I know how to make a tour both educational and fun — always with a personal touch. Whether you’re exploring Bergen for the first time or diving deeper into its Hanseatic past, I look forward to showing you the city through my eyes. Tours are possible in German and English.

Maria

Spanish, Living in Bergen 5+ Years
Guide in English and Spanish

Hey! I’m Maria. I’m from Spain, and I came to Norway for work in geotechnical engineering. Basically, I spend my days figuring out what the ground is doing… and my evenings wondering why I chose the rainiest city in Europe.

I started guiding simply because I love talking—and Bergen gives me endless stories, from mountains to fjords to umbrellas turning inside out. When I’m not at work or guiding, you’ll probably find me outside—hiking, exploring, or pretending to be sporty.

I speak Spanish, English and Norwegian. If you want serious explanations, fun facts, or just random banter – I’m your person.

Neal

Neil

English, Living in Bergen 10+ Years
Certified Guide in English

My first experience in Norway goes all the way back to the 1980s, when I travelled to the Hardangervidda to sit — and pass — my Mountain Leaders exam. At the time I was part of the Scottish Mountain Rescue Service, and that training ground made a lasting impression on me.

In the early ’90s I went to sea, working on oil-field service vessels. Not long after, I moved permanently to Norway and continued in the same line of work for many years. That career came to an end in 2013 when I was made redundant — which turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because it pushed me to finally formalise what I loved most. I signed up for the guide course.

I gave retirement a go, but I quickly realised I missed guiding far too much — the mountains, the people, the challenge, the purpose. So here I am, still doing what I love.

Serena

Italian, Living in Bergen 10+ Years
Certified Guide in English & Italian

I was born and raised in Rome, Italy, with an incredible, crazy family from Puglia, in the South. I’ve always loved art, cultures, and languages, and I’m happy that I’ve been able to turn my passions into my academic journey.

My career as a tourist guide started in Rome as a young volunteer for F.A.I. ( Fondo Ambiente Italiano), for 2 years, until I decided to move to Norway in 2015. Since then, I’ve started studying immediately to get certified as a tourist guide in Norway, I’ve started working with traditional Norwegian dresses— Bunads — and I’ve finally had the chance to study Norwegian Sign Language (NTS). Whenever I have free time, I love to knit, crochet or do anything crafty.
