The Small-Group Hiking Tour on Mt. Fløyen is one of the best ways to experience Bergen’s nature just minutes from the city centre.
On this tour, you’ll hike up Mount Fløyen from the city, following scenic forest trails that gradually lead you above Bergen’s streets and into peaceful woodland. Along the way, you’ll enjoy fresh mountain air, changing views over the city and harbour, and a sense of how closely nature and everyday life are connected in Bergen. At the top, you’ll have time to explore the area, take in panoramic viewpoints and enjoy the surroundings before finishing the experience with a ride down on the famous Fløibanen funicular.
Your guide will lead you along well-chosen paths away from the busiest routes, sharing local insight into Bergen’s landscape, outdoor culture and hiking traditions. There will be plenty of time for photos, questions and short breaks — including a small surprise along the way that’s a favourite among Norwegian hikers.
This isn’t a strenuous mountain climb — it’s a relaxed, small-group hike designed to be enjoyable and accessible. With a comfortable pace, friendly atmosphere and personal attention from your guide, it’s an ideal way to experience Bergen beyond the city streets.

Finish the tour back in the city centre, perfectly placed to continue exploring
What sets this hike apart is how naturally it blends city, forest and mountain into a single experience. Starting at street level and climbing into woodland, the tour shows how closely Bergen’s daily life is tied to nature. Rather than jumping straight to a viewpoint, you experience the gradual transition from urban streets to quiet forest trails, gaining a real sense of place along the way.
Another highlight is the pace and small-group atmosphere. This isn’t a rushed or demanding hike — it’s designed to be relaxed and accessible, with time to stop, take photos and enjoy the surroundings. By following quieter paths away from the busiest routes, the walk feels calm and immersive, even though you’re only minutes from the city centre.
The local insight adds depth to the experience. Your guide shares stories about Bergen’s outdoor culture, hiking traditions and relationship with the landscape, weaving in personal perspective and practical knowledge. The walk feels conversational rather than scripted, shaped by the group’s curiosity and questions.
Finally, the tour ends on a memorable high note. After time to explore the summit and take in panoramic views, you descend on the iconic Fløibanen funicular — a classic Bergen experience. It’s more than just a hike; it’s a refreshing, well-rounded way to understand how nature fits into everyday life in Bergen.

We had Erik as our guide. Born and raised in Bergen, 28 years old and speaking very good English. Very enthusiastic connoisseur and narrator of history, facts and present. Definitely worth it! This private tour is for 8 people but we were only the 4 of us. Totally awesome.
