Discover the sites from World War II located in and around Bergen. The tour will begin with a short walking tour and visit to the Bergenhus Fortress Museum, where you will learn about how the war affected Bergen. You will then drive out to either Herdla Fortress or Telavåg village - the choice is yours! Both provide a unique insight into the war and are located approximately 45 minutes from the city centre.
Telavåg
A fishing village annihilated by the Nazis in 1942 after locals aided two Norwegian resistance agents. The entire population was deported, every building burned, and the village erased from maps in one of the worst civilian reprisals in occupied Norway. The modern museum tells the story through personal testimony, resistance operations, and the brutal consequences of defiance — very moving, focused on human cost and courage.
Herdla
A fortified island crucial for German coastal defence and Luftwaffe operations. Features a preserved German torpedo battery and airfield remains. The museum is more military-technical than Telavåg — weapons systems, bunkers, strategic positioning, and Norway’s role in the Battle of the North Atlantic. Excellent for those interested in tactics, engineering and war infrastructure.
