The Best Cafes in Bergen, According to Our Guides

Few cities suit café culture quite like Bergen. Between the rain showers, cobbled streets, and slow-paced mornings, the city has built a coffee scene that feels both cosy and deeply rooted in local life. We asked our tour guides to share the cafés they genuinely recommend — the places they stop for their favourite brew, bring visiting friends, or escape to on a grey afternoon. From specialty coffee roasters to hidden neighbourhood spots, these are the best cafés in Bergen according to the people who know the city best.

Kardemomme i Marken

Maria’s Favourite Cafe in Bergen

“It feels cozy and calm, with homemade food and huge cinnamon buns. I love that it has this old-style Bergen vibe where you can just sit there forever talking, reading, or just waiting for the train to come.”

Blom

Heidi’s Favourite Cafe in Bergen

“Blom is one of my favourite places for specialty coffee in Bergen. The quality is consistently high, and the minimalist Scandinavian design creates a calm atmosphere in the middle of the city.”

Honourable Mentions:

  • Marken Kaffe – As a local, I love Marken Kaffe because it sits in one of Bergen’s most charming historic streets. It’s a great place to start the day with excellent coffee while watching everyday life unfold.
  • Godt Brød Marken – I often recommend Godt Brød to visitors looking for a relaxed breakfast or lunch. Their organic baking philosophy and location in historic Marken make it a lovely introduction to Bergen.

Bakery 29

Caterina’s Favourite Cafe in Bergen

“My favourite cinnamon buns in Bergen. If you’re not a cinnamon fan, no worries: they have a wide range of pastries you can choose from, with seasonal fruits and berries.”

SKG Vinkafe

Paulina’s Favourite Cafe in Bergen

“Skg. Vinkafé is by far my favourite café. It has a cozy atmosphere and offers the classical Norwegian café experience, with waffles topped with brown cheese and delicious cinnamon buns (both highly recommended), and excellent coffee, all served in a charming little wooden house. “

Our guide Caterina also loves SKG Vinkafe:

“I love this place because the owners will always welcome you with a big smile, great coffee and warm waffles with brown cheese (a must-try when in Norway).”

BKB (Bergen Kaffebrenneri)

Magda’s Favourite Cafe in Bergen

“The coffee quality is one thing, but I just love the vibe of it as it is located next to Nygårdsparken Park and Puddefjorden with a tiny artificial beach. If you go there on a Sunday, you can pop into a flea market next to it. In the summer, I like to treat myself to their own ice cream. The red currant or rhubarb sorbet is just great! As it is located away from the historic harbour, it offers a chance to see a different side of Bergen. “

Det Lille Kaffekompaniet

Serena’s Favourite Cafe in Bergen

“My favourite coffee shop has to be Lille Kaffekompaniet. The food and the coffee are absolutely incredible, and the guys working there are the kindest people ever met.”

Our guide Caterina also loves Det Lille Kaffekompaniet:

“This tiny cozy place has the best coffee and carrot cake.”

Honourable Mentions:

  • Café le Pomme –  it’s a proper hidden gem, with the most incredible food and an incredible setting

Vågen

Emma’s Favourite Cafe in Bergen

“They used to be located much closer to where I live, which made this easy for me – but now they are in the city centre, which is easier for visitors coming to Bergen. I like all the cafes mentioned on this page, but I wanted to add Vågen as one other good choice. First, as a Melbournian, I’m a bit of a coffee snob, and Vågen has some of the best coffee I’ve tried (Det Lille Kaffekompaniet is a close second). Second, I love baking bread, but sourdough has always been tricky for me. Vågen has some of the best sourdough in Bergen, as well as some of the best pastries. It reminds me of a bakery tucked in a narrow alley back home in Melbourne. I love it.”

Honourable Mentions:

  • Kaf – while located in the middle of Bryggen, which can seem unappealing on a crowded summer day, Kaf is locally owned, and the owner is one of the friendliest people in the city. I love going here when I’m between tours or just walking to the office in the morning, knowing the coffee will always be excellent.
