Where to Find a Laundromat in Bergen
Here are my reasons why Bergen is perfect for exploring on foot!
At I Love Bergen, we’re always looking to bring you experiences off the beaten path, those little adventures that show a different, more playful side of the city. Bergen is full of surprises, especially for families, and we love helping you discover activities that go beyond the usual tourist highlights. Need help planning your stay or choosing the right activities for your family? Just reach out, we’re happy to help. Here are five uncommon family adventures in and around Bergen.
If you’re looking for a place to stay that your children will remember forever, this is it.
Perched on Mount Fløyen, Konglen is a spectacular treetop-style cabin surrounded by forest, just a short walk from the famous Fløibanen funicular. Wake up to birdsong, enjoy breakfast surrounded by nature, and watch the city slowly come to life below you.
Recommended age: all ages, but you must be over 18 to book.
Available: Year-round (advance booking recommended)
Why we love it: Most hotels are forgotten after a trip. Kids remember sleeping in a forest above Bergen.
If your kids love magical creatures, mysterious stories, and a little bit of spooky fun, this might just be their favourite plan in Bergen.
Join Bergen’s Crime & Myth Walk and uncover the darker, stranger side of the city. As you explore Bergen’s historic streets and hidden alleyways, you’ll hear stories of witch trials, mysterious disappearances, medieval crimes, and the legends that have been passed down through generations.
The adventure ends at the Troll museum, where Norwegian mythology comes to life through interactive exhibits, mythical creatures, and fascinating folklore. It’s the perfect way to dive deeper into the stories that have shaped Norway for centuries.
Recommended age: for all ages (children under 5 years old can come free 😉)
Available: Year-round at 10:30
Why we love it: Kids don’t realise they’re learning history because they’re too busy listening to stories about trolls, witches, and criminals.
The nature trail in mount Fløyen transforms a simple walk into an interactive adventure. Along the route, children search for hidden stations, solve challenges, answer questions, and discover the forests and lakes that make Fløyen so special.
The trail is designed specifically for younger explorers and is a brilliant way to get kids excited about being outdoors. You just need to download the template and start the challenge!
Recommended age: For all ages
Available: Year-round
Why we love it: Tell your kids you’re going for a hike, and you might get complaints. Tell them they’re going on a treasure hunt, and they’re halfway up the mountain before they notice 😉
Combine the trail with a visit to the playground and goat enclosure for a full day on the mountain.
Yes, this is a real thing.
There are several alpaca farms around Bergen offering guided walks and farm visits. Places like Oppetveiten Organic Farm or Alpakkavandring in Solbakkestova give families the chance to meet these fluffy locals up close. It’s a simple, slow-paced experience that lets you fully enjoy nature at its best.
Recommended age: for all ages
Available: Year-round (advance booking recommended)
Why we love it: It combines three things kids love: animals, the outdoors, and doing something they can’t tell their friends they’ve done before.
Want an experience you probably can’t find back home? I will give you two options:
Walking 20 minutes from the city centre, you will find the Norwegian Fisheries Museum, where the experience starts. There you’ll get a short, interactive introduction to modern aquaculture. From there, the adventure continues out on the water. A safe and exciting RIB boat ride takes you through the fjords and directly to the fish farm, where you can see the entire production process up close.
Another option is to visit the Coast Museum in Øygarden, where a short introductory film is shown before you head out to the fish farm itself by RIB boat.
With a mix of museum learning, boat adventure, and incredible scenery, this is one of the most memorable and eye-opening family experiences in Bergen.
Recommended age: 12+ years for Norwegian Fisheries Museum and +5 for Coast Museum in Øygarden
Available: Selected dates, check Norwegian Fisheries Museum and Coast Museum.
Why we love it: It’s uniquely Norwegian and surprisingly engaging for both kids and adults.
