Craft Beer, Wine & Cocktails: Exploring Bars in Bergen

When visiting a new city, it’s easy to fall into tourist traps — overpriced drinks, generic menus, and places locals never set foot in. Bergen is no exception. If you want to experience the city properly, you need to know where locals go for craft beer, wine, and cocktails at bars in Bergen.

This guide brings together my favourite bars in Bergen — the ones I go to with friends, plus a few I still have on my must-visit list. Whether you’re into microbreweries, atmospheric wine bars, or creative cocktails, these spots showcase the best of Bergen’s nightlife scene.

Beer

Let’s start with beer. In Norwegian, it’s øl, and to pronounce it… just picture the meme of the cat trying to throw up and add and L. Whatever sound you imagine? You’re close enough.

Cat trying to throw up – just for the reference.

The city has long been dominated by Hansa, the largest brewery in western Norway, named after the historic Hanseatic League. In recent years, however, smaller craft breweries have taken centre stage, with 7 Fjell Brewery leading the local movement.

Fun Fact

Fun fact: Hansa’s name comes from the Hanseatic League, a nod to Bergen’s trading history.

Apollon Platebar

Address: Nygårdsgaten 2A, 5015 Bergen
Instagram: @apollonplatebar

One of the best places to grab a beer. Great selection on tap, rock music, and one of the oldest record stores in Norway, so you can drink and flip through vinyls at the same time. They also host quizzes, mini-concerts, and other fun events, as well as the possibility to play board games.

Vinyl

Address: Kong Oscars gate 8, 5017 Bergen
Instagram: @vinylbarbergen

If you’re after something cozy, Vinyl is a perfect pick. Think comfy sofas, a relaxed vibe, and plenty of local beers on tap, you can even see the colour of each beer before you order. It’s a great place to settle in, sip a drink, and soak up the atmosphere.

Henrik øl & vinstove

Address: Engen 10, 5011 Bergen

For serious beer variety, head to Henrik øl & vinstove. They often have around 50+ beers on tap, plus sours and special bottles. Perfect if you love trying new styles.

Bryggeriet

Address: Zachariasbryggen 2nd floor, Torget 2, 5014 Bergen
Instagram: @bryggerietrestaurant

This bar restaurant is another great stop. They brew their own beer and are the first microbrewery to open in Bergen city centre. They offer beer tastings for groups and have a restaurant with views over the bay. The second floor has sports and games, perfect if you want something lively or you travel in group.

And when summer finally blesses Bergen with sunshine, we flock to the terraces in Bryggen, right in front of the UNESCO-listed wooden houses. It’s chaotic, but a beer there feels like a little miracle from the weather gods.

Finally, 7 Fjell Brewery is a must-visit. Their beer is brewed using Bergen rainwater (fitting, considering how much of it we get). They also host tastings and their popular Open Brewery days, usually the last Friday of the month. Check their website for dates.

Wine

Prefer grapes over hops? Bergen has plenty of places where you can swirl, sip, and snack your way through a great evening. From hidden terraces to atmospheric wine cellars, the city’s wine scene is all about good bottles, good vibes, and discovering new favorites one glass at a time.

Pergola Mat & Vinbar

Address: Nedre Korskirkeallmenningen 9B, 5017 Bergen
Instagram: @pergolavinbar

Let’s start with Pergola Mat & Vinbar, a little hidden gem with a small, charming backyard terrace. Inspired by Italy, it has around 450 wines on the list, plus a simple menu of antipasti and pizza. It’s intimate, and perfect for a slow evening.

Speilbaren

Address: Torgallmenningen 2, 5014 Bergen

Speilbaren is located on the 3rd floor of Bergen Børs Hotel in the heart of the city, with views of Fisketorget, the harbour, and Torgallmenningen. This cocktail and wine bar serves delicious snacks and brings authentic New York vibes to Bergen. The space is historic, originally part of the old stock exchange dating back to the late 1800s, with high ceilings, large mirrors, chandeliers, and architectural details that reflect its grand past.

Vinbaren Vin & Pintxos

Address: Kaigaten 12, 5016 Bergen

Then there’s Vinbaren Vin & Pintxos, offering a great selection of wines paired with small plates inspired by classic wine combinations. They also have a tiny terrace overlooking Lille Lungegårdsvannet, ideal for a relaxed drink in the early evening.

Dyvekes Vinkjeller

Address: Hollendergaten 7, 5017 Bergen

Facebook: Frille og Dyvekes Vinkjeller

This isn’t a wine-specialist bar like the others, but it deserves a mention for the atmosphere alone. Located in a stone basement from the 1300s, it’s the kind of place where you feel the history as soon as you step inside. They often host live music, and it is said that King Christian of Denmark met his mistress, Dyveke, here while she was dancing. A glass of wine in that setting hits differently.

Cocktails

If cocktails are more your thing, Bergen has plenty of spots that know how to shake, stir, and serve a good time. The city’s cocktail scene is small but full of personality: cozy bars, creative menus, and bartenders who love what they do. Whether you’re craving something classic, fruity, elegant, or just playful, there’s a bar for every mood.

No Stress Bar

Address: Hollendergaten 11, 5017 Bergen

Instagram: @nostressbergen

This is one of the all-time local favourites. If you ask any Bergenser where to bring a date, they’ll probably say: “Take them to No Stress.” They’re true cocktail specialists, serving everything from the timeless classics to their own “local heroes”.

Last Monkey

Address: Bankgaten 6, Bergen, Hordaland 5005

Instagram: @lastmonkeybergen

This bar, together with No Stress, is the cocktail bar duo everyone in the city knows. It’s lively, urban, and creative, making it a perfect choice for great drinks in a laid-back atmosphere. They offer both classics and signature creations, and the vibe is always on point.

Fresquito

Address: Vågsallmenningen 1, 5014 Bergen

Instagram: @fresquitobergen

Fresquito brings a sunny, Spanish-inspired twist to the city. It’s actually a tapas restaurant, super relaxed, with friendly staff and a warm atmosphere. After dinner hours, it turns into a lively cocktail spot where people stand, chat, dance a bit, and enjoy their drinks, often with live music to keep the night moving.

360 Exhibition

Address: Småstrandgaten 3. Entrance by: Olav Kyrresgate/Rådhusgaten, 5014 Bergen

Instagram: @360xhibition

If you’re in the mood for something different, head up to MM Atmosphere or 360 Xhibition rooftops. Both offer cocktails and food menus, and the views over the cit. Go around sunset if you want that extra wow factor.
